Robert Lux Wins
'CFO of the Year' Award
From Philadelphia Business Journal
Robert H. Lux, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of TUHS, was recently named a "CFO of the Year" by Philadelphia Business Journal as part of its annual ranking of the Top CFOs in the Delaware Valley.
Lux, who was recognized for excellence in the "Large Nonprofit" category, was honored with a full-page feature story focusing on the secrets behind his nearly 30 years of successful service to Temple University Hospital and TUHS.
More than an accomplished CFO, Lux truly understands the big picture and is immersed in the Health System's clinical operations and policies. He has been a key player in every strategic initiative Temple has launched over the past 20 years -- including the creation of TUHS. On his watch, Temple has grown from a single teaching hospital to a Health System with $450 million in the bank, nationally and regionally recognized Centers of Excellence, a $77 million state-of-the-art Ambulatory Care Center, and an investment-grade credit rating with consistent access to cost-effective capital.
A Philadelphia native, Lux also has been instrumental in helping to maintain TUHS healthcare entities as anchors in the communities in which they serve. And his work continues as he strives to raise the Health System's level of financial sophistication, while working with administrative and clinical departments to improve the professionalism of the Health System as a whole.
In the Business Journal feature article, Lux explains that his business approach has as much to do with finance as it does with team building.
"You really have to earn the trust and confidence and respect of people whom you work with," said Lux. "Much of what you have to do in large organizations is bringing people together, getting people behind a vision that you lay out, and getting them excited about that vision because they see how it elevates what we all do to a higher ideal."
His power to motivate and inspire is evident in the company he keeps. As CFO, he has built an accomplished team of financial professionals whose longevity is easier to measure in decades than in years.
This well-deserved honor comes on the heels of another momentous award for Lux. Earlier this year, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
